“Polytunity”
Opportunities hidden in a polycrisis.
Details
Our Take
Risks trivialising real suffering - communities in compound crises may not appreciate being told they are experiencing a 'polytunity.' The concept connects to hope spirals and to the historical precedent that post-WWII polycrisis produced transformative responses. A conversation-starter, not a serious analytical term.
Ideological Framing
“Polytunity” was coined by Yuen Yuen Ang to propose that today’s overlapping crises (polycrisis) are also a many‑sided opportunity for deep institutional and paradigm shifts, if we approach them adaptively and inclusively. Some perceive it reflects the dominant neoliberal ideology and risks seeing market opportunities instead of deep transformation.
Typical everyday wording
Finding opportunities inside overlapping crises.
