Liminal space / liminal moment
A threshold period between an old way of being and a new one that has not yet formed.
Details
Our Take
Increasingly used to describe the current decade. Evocative and graspable once explained, though the word itself is unfamiliar to many. Characterised by uncertainty, disorientation, but also possibility and transformation. The 2020s have been framed as a liminal moment for institutions. From anthropology (van Gennep, Turner): the phase in a rite of passage where the old identity has dissolved and the new one has not yet formed -- vulnerability and creative potential together.
